<h2>Student workload</h2>

<hr>

<p>To visualize the student workload for the courses in an assembled curriculum, navigate to the last menu item of the left info bar &quot;Student workload&quot;.</p>

<p><img src='/assets/doc/cit_side_bar_menu_student_workload-5272377155126ccf5bfd1f583094d12aa1a99196f916498aa007b8846bc063f7.png' alt='Student workload' width='180px'/>. </p>

<p>To activate the student workload visualization, click the <img src='/assets/doc/cit_button_show_workload_data-889ec9e315d5f384fba015f97fbdc832e1cf3cd46162aa6e7b30b7e19a6bc5b7.png' alt='Student workload' height='18px'/> button.</p>

<p>All the courses in the curriculum no show a little &quot;traffic light&quot;. The display of color on that traffic light is based on the workload data compared to the planning value of 30h per ECTS.</p>

<p>The student workload is calculated by adding three parts:</p>

<ol>
<li>The <strong>fixed workload</strong>: The contact hours of a course unit. Calculated by number of semester weeks times weekly semester hours.</li>
<li>The <strong>free workload</strong>: The amount of time students spend for the course outside the contact hours. Data taken from the course evaluation.</li>
<li>The <strong>exam workload</strong>: The amount of time students spend preparing for the course exams. Data taken from the exam evaluation.</li>
</ol>

<p>Several options are possible:</p>

<ul>
<li><img src='/assets/doc/cit_ampel_empty-ef917d7e6cabe13d3b315ec127fa74d1fb6a4dd93c5340db6ac4a916265116b0.png' alt='Ampel empty' height='18px'/>: No student workload data available for this course unit.</li>
<li><img src='/assets/doc/cit_ampel_green-3f4a77f6fe22dd0dd17044804b5a07c8a33ed9255176b78bee1ab5867f7d2b47.png' alt='Ampel green' height='18px'/>: The student workload is within 10 % of the planning value.</li>
<li><img src='/assets/doc/cit_ampel_yellow-04021405694c1ec308c5322c967d9785f88bb14670b953c401e03917b6caecfb.png' alt='Ampel yellow' height='18px'/>: The student workload is between 10 - 20 % higher than the planning value.</li>
<li><img src='/assets/doc/cit_ampel_red-57cf83ea0829e5e0e428589b8e2513dbe9211006670e074b63ecb727710f6b12.png' alt='Ampel red' height='18px'/>: The student workload is more than 20 % above the planning value.</li>
<li><img src='/assets/doc/cit_ampel_green_attention-57abe4ff379e318380c0664c89b25b0e94bf028eee3ddb8a6625d00063e558cf.png' alt='Ampel green attention' height='18px'/>: The student workload data is incomplete. Data needs to be scrutinized.</li>
</ul>

<p><strong>IMPORTANT: The workload data is puzzled together from multiple different course cohorts over the years. Please be aware that the &quot;error bars&quot; for this data are fairly large. Be careful with interpretation of data. We recommend to look at data comparatively in the context of one curriculum</strong></p>

<p>When hovering with the mouse over a traffic light of a course, a detailed break down of the workload parts is shown (<strong>fixed</strong>/<strong>free</strong>/<strong>exam</strong>):</p>

<p>The detailed source of the student workload data can be looked up when clicking on a course unit and navigate to the &quot;workload&quot; tab in the course menu:</p>

<p>Clicking on &quot;workload&quot; will display the data source along with the number of answers from the exam evaluations:</p>
