<h2>CIT Structure</h2>

<hr>

<p>When logging in for the first time, your start screen will show (more or less) this:</p>

<p><img src='/assets/doc/cit_structure_empty-928d451bc85fa268dd6278a3cd122e4407f97c623948fbde16b07d184dce38d0.png' alt='Curriculum view' width='720px'/></p>

<h2>Top menu bar</h2>

<p>At the top, you find the menu bar, showing you the three main menus:</p>

<ol>
<li><p>Project portfolio (default view) <img src='/assets/doc/cit_menu_bar_project_portfolio-c4cf4a37f0d6a3bbdff07ecf48a591ee9d9db276069054304fdb43ba8f68e659.png' alt='Project portfolio menu' height='18px'/></p>

<blockquote>
<p>The project portfolio view is the default view when logging in to the CIT. You see an overview of all the projects that you have created yourself or were added to by other CIT users.</p>
</blockquote></li>
<li><p>Course units <img src='/assets/doc/cit_menu_bar_course_units-e54fb2f6d3852d3a9aa97129260060756bd8391555d94011f41e035f2a6a7c37.png' alt='Course units menu' height='18px'/></p>

<blockquote>
<p>In the course units menu, you find all the courses that are stored in the CIT database. The courses you see here are copied from the ETH database. </p>
</blockquote></li>
</ol>

<blockquote>
<p><strong>Important: When working with CIT, no information is written to the ETH database. The interface between the ETH database and CIT is one-way!</strong> </p>

<p>Once every semester, the course information is updated (overwritten) for all regular ETH courses (defined by its unique course number XXX-XXXX-XX). All current course information from the course catalogue is updated, including the course competencies.</p>

<p><strong>Important: Course copies created within CIT are not overwritten and are maintained manually</strong>.</p>
</blockquote>

<li>Competencies <img src='/assets/doc/cit_menu_bar_competencies-cfdd84899c31e133cc54ab74b8470d3922bc25b44ae3e7e62e6c686301189a40.png' alt='Competencies menu' height='18px'/>
&gt; In the competencies menu, the competencies from the <a href="https://ethz.ch/en/the-eth-zurich/education/policy/eth-competencies-teaching.html" title="target=_blank">ETH Competence Framework</a> can be found. Custom competencies can be defined here and added to a custom competence set.</li>
